In this course we will look at five recent novels, with an eye toward choosing books which shy away from "literary" style, and instead embrace themes and genres which have recently captured the attention of the English-speaking world. This will be a place for guided discussion of the works, which the participants will have a hand in choosing. The first meeting will discuss "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro.

This course is intended for students who are already writing short fiction in English in any genre and wish to improve upon their skills with targeted feedback. While there will be instruction and assigned writing exercises, the focus will be on sharing students' completed works with the rest of the group. Each work will receive moderated attention from peers, as well as the teacher, who is a widely published short fiction author.
